Training and experience
I obtained my MA Clinical Psychology degree (with distinction) from the University of Pretoria where I was trained in most therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and post modern modalities, i.e. systems and narrative therapy. I was trained in individual (child and adult) as well as couples and family therapy.
During my training I have been exposed to and worked in various environments including in-patient settings, i.e. psychiatric hospitals and general hospitals with a psychiatric ward where I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team, giving input at ward rounds and running weekly groups with psychiatric in-patients. I also worked in out-patient settings, i.e. clinics, hospice and prison doing individual, couple and family therapy.
I have also been a Lifeline volunteer counsellor for five years and went on to work permanently for the organisation as Counselling Manager where I was responsible for the selection and training of counsellors, supervisors and facilitators.
As part of my continuing professional development required by my profession, I frequently attend courses, workshops and conferences to extend my knowledge and hone my skills. |
